Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an auditioned ensemble of students in 7th and 8th-grades.  Jazz Band provides the opportunity for advanced students to learn and perform in a jazz ensemble setting. Students will learn to play in the four major stylistic genres of Swing, Rock, Ballads, and Latin. Members will begin introductory instruction in jazz improvisation and gain fundamental knowledge of chord and scale relationships. Students will perform at several concerts, contests and as a pep band at several athletic events. All members of this ensemble (except piano, guitar, and bass members of the rhythm section) will need to be in a current concert band. Continued participation in this program is determined by passing grades in band and other required courses, re-evaluated each semester.
