School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a proactive, team-based framework for creating and sustaining a safe and effective school environment. PBIS places an emphasis on the prevention of problem behavior, development of pro-social skills and the use of data based problem solving for existing behavior concerns. This year is the first year of implementation at DMS, and we will be focusing on the school-wide expectations of RESPECTING: Yourself, Others, Learning & Environment. Procedures are in place at DMS to use existing data to define behavioral expectations, teach those expectations, acknowledge appropriate behaviors, and proactively correct behavioral errors. Staff are using Positive Patriot Award tickets to acknowledge students who are modeling our school-wide expectations, and a team prize will be given when they reach their group goal!
