D.M.S Students Striving for Success!

DMS is going GREEN! No, we are not hugging trees; we are hugging grades. Students are meeting with their 5th period teachers each week to review their grades. This gives our teachers a chance to build relationships with their students. It also allows our teachers to have short conversations about theirs student's performance. Each student is assigned a identification number that is attached to a square. Only the student and the teacher know each students square. This keeps grades anonymous. If they are earning all A's, B's, and C's, the student colors their square green. If they have any D's, they color their square Yellow. If they have any F's, they color their square red. The students take ownership of their square. The colored squares are posted in the commons. For the first quarter, 81% of the 6th graders were green, 65% of the 7th graders were green, and 53% of the 8th graders were green.

We have also provided some additional incentive to each grade level. If 80% of the grade level "GO GREEN" by the end of the quarter, those students will earn an after school field trip opportunity. For the first quarter, the 6th graders took a trip to the Andrew Luck corn maze in Waterloo. We have received a lot of great feedback from our students thus far with this unique incentive program. Ask your student about going green!
