Theater

A group of people in period costumes perform on a stage.

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade student who is interested in singing, acting, dancing, or building/designing for the stage crew is invited to be a part of DeKalb Middle School’s annual musical!  Membership in choir is helpful but not required. These productions combine acting, dancing, and vocal performance, and offer many different types of roles, including leading roles (lots of lines/vocal solos), featured roles (some solo singing and/or lines), ensemble roles (group singing/acting/dancing), and backstage crew (hands-on projects behind the scenes). The musical provides students with an opportunity to take their performance skills to levels beyond classroom experiences and to learn valuable interpersonal skills in the process.

Typically, our musicals involve around 50 students, and rehearsals are after school (almost daily) during the three-month musical season. Auditions are held in early December. Previous productions have included Mary Poppins Jr, High School Musical Jr, Aladdin Jr, Singin’ in the Rain Jr, and many more.
