On Tuesday & Wednesday, our 7th and 8th grade students will be given fun art lessons by the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

On Tuesday, all of our students will be able to walk-through an exhibit of RC planes in our Media Center in anticipation of the RC plane/helicopter demonstration on Wednesday!

During SST, our students will celebrate our Champions in the MIddle Unified Sports program with an AWESOME Convocation by the Champions Together program of Indiana. We will meet and see athletes from DHS, be part of fun games/activities, and receive our official banner welcoming us into the program!

If you didn't see my previous post, our Unified eSports program has launched this year. The game is MARIO KART, and there is still time for YOUR STUDENT to get involved! We are the ONLY Indiana Unified eSports team -- and we are competing against New Mexico, Colorado, New Jersey, and Florida!!!

Wednesday's Events!

We are BEYOND excited about Wednesday.

DMS has partnered with United Way to spread positivity across DeKalb County! Students will be leaving positive chalk messages at all our schools (JR Watson, McKinney, Country Meadow, Waterloo, DHS & DMS), as well as heading out into Ashley, Corunna, Jackson Township, Auburn, and Waterloo to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Teenagers can sometimes get a "bad rap" - but I want you to know that our DMS teenagers are the best in Indiana! Look for us on Wednesday between 9:30 - 10:30 in our RED SHIRTS making a difference in our community!

***Your student should be bringing home a red shirt DONATED BY UNITED WAY on Monday or Tuesday. PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY WEAR IT ON WEDNESDAY. They don't want to miss this amazing event!

All students completed a field trip form during registration that allows them to participate in this event. Please contact the office with any questions.

Wednesday students will also continue participating in the Museum activities, RC plane demonstration, and hands on learning activities!

Thursday & Friday's Events!

Although there is no "official" event on Thursday, many teachers will be finishing up their hands-on lessons.

On Friday, students and staff will head over to the high school for our BLACKOUT BULLYING Convocation.

Remind your student to wear BLACK that day to BLACKOUT Bullying! We will enjoy:

DMS Students vs. DMS Staff volleyball
DMS Staff vs. DHS Staff volleyball
DHS Staff vs. DHS Students volleyball

We will also play games and enjoy our 6-12 campus connection! Doing activities WITH the high school is a great way for our students to connect with and get to know DHS!

Welcome, Mr. Eltzroth!

We are excited to share that Mr. Brett Eltzroth will be serving as the Dean and Athletic Director at DeKalb Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year.

Mr. Eltzroth has been both a teacher and coach in our district for many years, and he brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and strong relationships with students, staff, and families. We are thrilled to welcome him into this important role.

As Dean, Mr. Eltzroth will focus on supporting students and staff by helping with student discipline, encouraging positive behavior, and fostering a safe and respectful learning environment.

Questions to ask your student...

  1. What does your SST plan to do for their chalk art design?
  2. Have your teachers talked about what fun lessons they will be doing during Rock Your School week?
  3. Why is it important for teens to have a positive impact on their community?
  4. When you are out in the community on Wednesday, how should you show adults and others POSITIVE BEHAVIOR?
  5. For 6th grade: What is an RC plane? What do you think that demo will be like? For 7th/8th grade: What do you think you'll learn from the Museum of Art? What do you think you will "create"?
