Family Friday Five

DMS Principal's Weekly Newsletter

December 5, 2025

Happy Holidays!

Students and staff will be having lots of fun the next couple weeks -- learning, but still enjoying themselves! The week of December 15, there will be dress up days for students:

  1. Monday - Pajama Day!
  2. Tuesday - Lumberjack vs. Luau Day
  3. Wednesday - Grinch vs. Rudolph
  4. Festive Family Photo - coordinate a holiday outfit with your friends!
  5. Crazy Christmas Attire - ugly sweaters, santa hats, all the things!

Encourage your student to get involved!

Food Pantry Food Drive:
Our Student Council and 7th grade Science classes are sponsoring a food drive to support the DMS Food Pantry. This has been extended to December 16 due to school closures.

Grade levels are competing to see who brings in the most! See the image below for more information!

Principal's Cabinet

Recently, all students were given the opportunity to submit an application for the Principal's Cabinet. This application required two teacher references.

This cabinet will meet monthly to discuss school community and culture, as well as student needs. The DMS Student Council President is also on the cabinet to provide communication between both entities.

This is a great opportunity for students to show leadership and encourage them to talk with their peers about the great things we are doing at DMS, and how to make it better!

In the future, there is a plan to have some opportunities for parents to be involved in some of our community conversations. If you are interested in this, please email Mrs. Wisehart at cwisehart@dekalbcentral.net.

Athletic Information

Each week, our Athletic Director Brett Eltzroth, with help from his secretary, Erika Jordan, put together information about the current news from Athletics. See the images below for more information!

We are proud of ALL our students -- make sure you take a look at the cool photo of our Pep Band playing at our girls' basketball game on Wednesday!

Food Pantry/Care Closet

Just a reminder that DMS has a food pantry and care closet available to provide food, hygiene items, and clothing for our students.

Students utilize the Guidance Google Classroom to request items, and these are always delivered privately to students.

You can also reach out to your student's guidance counselor or teacher if there are items you and your family need. We are here to help!

It's that time of year...

Thank you so much for filling out the Thankful for You certificates in the month of November. We posted them on teacher and staff doors/offices and they felt appreciated.

If you would like to appreciate our staff this month and aren't quite sure how, use this Amazon Wish List to purchase gift cards or teacher request items.

In the next week, the list will be updated with items teachers would like for their classrooms - a great opportunity to buy them a holiday gift!

All food items on this list are for the Food Pantry.

Questions to ask your student...

  1. How do you plan to dress up for our week before break?
  2. What fun projects are you doing in your classes right now?
  3. What carol did all of DMS sing together this morning?
  4. Are you attending the dance tonight?
  5. What is a nice way you can thank your teachers for a great semester?
