DeKalb Middle School is READY TO ROCK!

Rock Your School Week Brings Creativity, Competition, and Community to DMS

Get ready to ROCK,

DeKalb Middle School! October 5–9, DMS will celebrate Rock Your School Week, joining educators across the country in a week dedicated to creativity, student engagement, and making learning memorable.

Rock Your School is a national initiative created by Get Your Teach On. Its mission is to encourage educators to think outside the box, create engaging learning experiences, and find new ways to connect with students.

At DeKalb Middle School, we’re taking that message beyond the classroom with a week of schoolwide activities, friendly competition, and opportunities for students to show their school spirit.

Each day, students will have opportunities to earn points for their grade level during Student Success Time (SST). From dressing up to competing in challenges, students will work together to help their grade level earn the coveted Rock Your School trophy.

See the attached image for more info on the dress up days students can earn points for!

Tuesday will feature a special performance by Fort Wayne Taiko, a Japanese drumming ensemble from the Fort Wayne Dance Collective. Students will experience the energy, rhythm, and movement of traditional Japanese taiko drumming. The performance will introduce students to a unique art form while celebrating music, culture, and creativity. Fort Wayne Taiko combines powerful drumming with coordinated movement, making it an exciting opportunity for students to experience the performing arts firsthand.

On Thursday, students will hit the track for our Track Challenge! Each grade level will have a designated amount of time to walk or run laps. Students will earn one point for every lap they complete, encouraging everyone to get moving and support their classmates.

We’ll wrap up the week by joining together for a special convocation at DeKalb High School to stand together against bullying and promote a positive school culture.

A Week of School Spirit and Connection
While the grade-level competition will add some excitement, the purpose of Rock Your School Week goes beyond earning points. It’s about building connections, creating positive memories, and making school a place where students are excited to be.

At DMS, we believe that learning happens in many different ways. Whether students are participating in a classroom activity, cheering on their classmates, experiencing a live performance, or working together toward a common goal, every opportunity to engage matters.

Rock Your School Week gives us a chance to celebrate the creativity of our teachers, the enthusiasm of our students, and the school community we continue to build together.
And, of course, there’s a little friendly competition involved!

At the end of the week, we’ll announce the winning grade level and award the Rock Your School trophy.

Let’s show our school spirit, support one another, and make it a week to remember!
