Spell Bowl
Spell Bowl
Spell Bowl is a written spelling competition, similar to a spelling bee but with answers recorded on paper instead of spoken aloud. Students study word lists during practice sessions to prepare for competitions held throughout the year.
Each competition consists of eight rounds, with a different team member competing in each round. In every round, students are given seven words to spell. There is no limit to the number of participants from each grade level, though each student may compete in only one round per contest.
The official word lists, which rotate annually, are published by the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP).
